State of the Fandom: New Meetup Group in GB on 4 Feb, Plus Updates

 with Foal Duke

Yesterday we sat down with Mas, the current chair of UK Ponycon, for an update on a new meetup he has planned for the Yorkshire area.

Read after the jump for this and a few more updates and gossip.

Rolling Pone: An Interview on Pony Convention Finances and Doubtful Allegations

Rolling Pone: An Interview on Pony Convention Finances and Doubtful Allegations
By Foal Duke, International Affairs Correspondent

Allegations of scamming at BUCK thrown into disarray... Allegations of financial mistakes more doubtful... We talk con finance... A lesson for the readers: speculation’s fine but don’t assume shit...

With the beginning of the last BUCK, or British pony convention (apart from Bronyscot, which exists in a far nicer part of the country), the biggest convention in Europe is under way. Ever since the shock revelation in the press release a month or so ago at the time of publishing, I’d been ruminating on just how one could run a convention in an atmosphere that – at least according to BUCK’s managers – hasn’t really changed much from the days Henry VIII started taxing beards to pay for his wars and decapitation fetish.

So...
Yeah.
Things are pretty dull around here lately. It seems like nobody has really noticed though. Most of the news is pretty small potatoes anymore. "Oh there's a new episode synopsis"..."oh there's a new preview clip"...Whoop-de-friggin-do. What really is keeping us motivated is the upcoming convention season.

BUCK is playing their last encore this weekend, and we'll be sending a couple guys to document it. If you're in the UK, you should go toast the end of an era.

Next weekend - the 15th-17th - Midwest Media Expo will be returning, but this time in Dearborn just outside of our Detroit HQ - you can expect some pony shit going down there.

BABScon is coming up this month too from the 22nd to the 24th. That'll have some cool people, and also Chelis. Lauren "Mama" Faust will be there (too bad Hell would have to freeze over for us to talk to her) and so will Jeremy "Dragontown" Whitley so there will be some fun contrast to look forward to. Our friend Catie Wayne is going, and she's now a Voice Actress for Disney so be sure to ask her about that.

I myself will of course not be attending any of those, as the Pacific Ocean is a big thing and even I can't swim that far that fast.

I did however attend "AnimeJapan" 2 weekends ago, one of the largest Anime conventions on the planet, right in Tokyo.

Let's take a look at those pics because why the fuck not.

British Brony plans Big Boozed-up Blowout - you're invited

Earlier today we were contacted by a bloke from across the pond who's about to be forced away from the community for quite sometime, as he heads off to join the Royal Marine Commandos.
You're probably thinking: So what?

Well as it just so happens, this particular commando is planning a boozed-up blowout to end all blowouts, and he wants you to join him. As we at Horse News strongly support alcoholics, AND Anonymous (but NOT alcoholics anonymous), we're here to spread the word, and hope our British readers will be able to make it out for a pint with the guy.

All the whens and wheres are below.

The GBCC and My Little Convention - a pair of new UK Conventions

On your face

Well it looks like the UK will not be devoid of pastel horse pageantry. In the wake of BUCK, we've been sent a press release for the "Great British Brony Convention", which HN will henceforth be referring to as "The BBC".
We had previously been sent a link to the website for this upcoming con, but at the time it was pretty devoid of content. We'll have more info about this con as it becomes available.

Another UK con has also popped up "My Little Convention" slated for late August in Southport.

BUCK Write Up: The horrors I saw in Britbong Land.

The middle symbol; is that no dildos?
IT WAS A LONG WEEKEND OF WALKING. And yes it was because of Knighty (the sellout from FimFiction) who kept like disappearing and stuff which was really nothing to do with the con but a big shoutout-fuckyou to Knighty for doing that sort of shit to me.

MLP event coming to the UK...and it isn't BUCK

While we await our Britbong correspondent Ruby's report on the goings-ons of BUCK 2014 (the final BUCK?)  we have another piece of news from Jolly old. According to Tumblr, a new event will be materializing across the pond for those who are fond of horses. It is dubbed "#S5LDN".
No, that is not some sort of robot serial number.

BUCK 2015 not cancelled...?

Cool banner to distract you from the article.

Today, a press release was published from BUCK regarding the "no plans for BUCK 2015" tweet, shortly after the events of last week caused by that one interview. So yes; bottom line expect no BUCK 2015 unless you buy the premium tickets. And lots of them.

Open Letter from BUCK Towers
Dear Horse News,
In light of the dramatic expose on BUCK that surfaced on Monday, we felt that we could no longer remain silent on matters that haunt upper BUCK Towers management.

No BUCK for 2015

Bad bit of news for the Britbong bronies, BUCK won't be back next year. This news comes following the previous interview with Horse-News which succeeded at pissing off nearly every convention that heard about it, particularly with the representative's comparison of convention concerts to "school discos" and level of professionalism.

BUCK Convention Interview

Today, Jim and I sat down with Mav, GilDash and Nethesem from the BUCK Convention for an interview. BUCK Convention is being held in Manchester, north of England, in August 2014 and will be an epic 3-day event held over 22nd to the 24th of August, kicking off the with Summer Sun Celebration, the biggest brony music festival around!
