No BUCK for 2015

Bad bit of news for the Britbong bronies, BUCK won't be back next year. This news comes following the previous interview with Horse-News which succeeded at pissing off nearly every convention that heard about it, particularly with the representative's comparison of convention concerts to "school discos" and level of professionalism.

The 2014 BUCK is proceeding as scheduled for now, but the tweet indicates that they lack the budget to continue running the convention any further. This matches with the information that HN was sent by a former BUCK staffmember, who wishes to remain anonymous, going only by the alias of "CadenceGW".

The email provided a litany of information about the inner workings and reported disharmonious turmoil behind the scenes of the "proud" UK convention during the 2012-2013 season.

Among the list of grievances in the unconfirmed email, were reports that BUCK was "£20,000 in the red after the 2013 con", and that in 2012 "the person in charge of PR and contacting some VAs was a 16 year old".

CadenceGW went on to say "It has been mentioned in several Skype rooms that BUCK 2014 will be the last BUCK due to a declining fanbase and greatly rising ticket costs. I dread to think how the planning is going now, but I doubt anyone can cover a loss that big again. Probably hence why no expensive guests are coming this year (as usual)".

An attendee from BUCK 2012 and 2013 commented: "The 16 year old girl is Ruth, who I know, and in her defense did a good job."

The BUCK twitter went on to say that the only possibility of BUCK returning in 2015 would be attendance numbers exceeding 2000. We have no other source on the "£20,000" figure (which CadenceGW claims "someone covered the gap from their own personal funds") so that very well could be incorrect, but the other comments have all been shown to be the case.

Is this the end for the little con across the pond? Will bronies ever again take the streets of Jolly Old? Not likely. But they make this promise:

    1. And where can I find out about them? Also, walking into a pub with pony merch and stuff on? You sure it's a good idea? Do you think there would be any way to get a 2000 mark for next year? Would they be able to recover their funds by 2016 for one then?

    2. I learned about pub meets because there was a relatively large S4 finale pub meet in London. JackTHerbert play some DnB at it.

    3. Pretty much the best way to find out about pub meets is to just google '[insert the name of your town/region here] Bronies'; if they exist, they'll probably at least have a facebook page with some meet-up dates on them. And as a member of the North East Bronies, who regularly stroll into Newcastle pubs rocking more spaghetti than Northern Italy, I can say that most people don't really care what you're doing/wearing as long as you ain't bothering them.

  2. It's the fucking taxes, isn't it? So what I want to know is, what do they refer to here when they say 'declining fanbase'? Pony still seems to be stronger than ever that the minute - or do they mean the popularity in bongland? Or, do they mean the number of peopel coming to the con? What do you mean, Cap?

  3. After the shit they spewed in their interview, I can't say I really feel sorry for them.

  4. That's what you get for trying to run a Sub 2000 attendance con like a 10'000 attendance con.

Maybe if you pared it down a little and ran it with a modicum of fucking financial sense, this wouldn't have happened.

    1. I love the word "Modicum"

    2. Are you implying hiring a venue for $150 000 isn't financially sound? I wonder how many times you can fly Tara Strong to Europe for that kind of money. Probably at least once. Not even Bronycon paying that much for a venue should've been a red flag for those in charge, but I guess when you live in Manchester its preferable to not venture too far outside of your basement.

  5. They just need to make some curtbacks, just like every dam place in this country.

  6. BUCK could easily survive if they were willing to move to a new venue and change the way they do some things. That they don't appear to have attempted that tells me that there's more to this.

  7. They probably saying that there's one last chance for a 'big' con and that they'll have to change some things about BUCK next year.

  8. Pretty late to the party, but I'd like to point out that BUCK isn't the only game in 'town' (which is basically all England qualifies as). There's also UK Ponycon, which is so fucking OG that it started in 2004.

And the standard weekend ticket is £25. For comparison, BUCK's standard weekend pass is £80.

Gee, I wonder if one of them is overpriced.
