Midwest Media Expo launches #NotCon2017 in Detroit for displaced Congoers.

A few days ago, it was announced that Midwest Media Expo - an annual geek convention that attracts thousands of media fans to Detroit, and the sister convention of the wildly popular Youmacon - was CANCELLED, a mere 3 days before the start of the con. It was speculated at the time, but now essentially confirmed that it was the hotel venue who suddenly cancelled the convention's contract.

This is widely regarded as a dick move and has since earned the hotel the scorn of hundreds of pissed-off displaced congoers (the hotel's Facebook page is now a mere 1.6 out of 5 Stars).

But Good News everyone! From the ashes of M2X comes "NotCon 2017", a "fan appreciation event" taking place at the Radisson Hotel Detroit-Farmington Hills.

Some of the guests who were booked for the convention Jon St. John and David Eddings will be in attendance and word on the street is that it's FREE to the public.

Today I'm actually looking at the cumulative efforts of several community members to force rip offs of a much better YouTube series, but involving cartoon horses. And trust me when I say that these performances won't be earning any one a record deal any time soon.

Geek Fan Expo: A con that changes the way we think about cons

Over the weekend, Horse News took part in a new convention that has cropped up right in our HQ's backyard; just outside of Detroit Michigan. GeekFanExpo was held in Dearborn, a mere 11 miles from the hypothetical location of HorseCon, and what we saw there was thought provoking.

It was a surprisingly busy weekend in the pony community, at the little first-year con in the heart of Downtown Detroit - Midwest Media Expo. Today, Horse-News was among the first to see several big productions of fan-works, as well as some...interesting cosplays. SillyFillyStudios, Eileen Montgomery, and a surprise visit by one of the "Fighting is Magic: Tribute Edition" guys, made for an interesting second day in the Motor City.

We take a break from our ongoing coverage of BABScon shit to bring you a few words about a little convention in Downtown Detroit. Yes, THAT Detroit, where Capper and some other folks from Horse-News spend a lot of their time.  Midwest Media Expo is taking place this weekend, featuring guests such as that guy who hates ponies Max Gilardi (aka HotDiggedyDemon), Eileen Montgomery (fan VA for Octavia) and SillyFillyStudios.

Silly Filly Studios giving away free passes to Detroit Convention

Silly Filly Studios (the creators of SnowDrop) and HotDiggedyDemon are both slated to be guests at the upcoming Midwest Media Expo in Detroit Michigan (which is the Springtime equivalent of Youmacon). Though technically an "anime-centric" convention, ponies have taken the scene by storm over the last year. And this is not to be confused with that OTHER convention in Detroit. SFS has been given 100 passes to the con to giveaway, and took a few minutes to tell Horse-News about their plans for the convention.
