MLP comics give shout out to known anti-fandom artist (UPDATES)

Art by Cutosphere/Dragondicks

First video games, then hand egg. Now, at last the special snowflake tumblrinas have spread thier infection to the IDW MLP comics.

The troubling developments after the break.

SJW's ruin everything

With the new IDW comic out, it seems that there was an OC cameo that has everyone pondering if IDW actively supports hatred and misandry, and "killing of all bronies".

Meet Dragon Dicks

Dragon Dicks is the rant-blog/be-a-dick-to-people blog for the artist "Cutosphere" (which there is a reason she has a separate blog for it, as the extremist views might turn people off to her work). It is worth mentioning that this person was also one of the biggest supporters of the "Down With Molestia" movement, (which was time and again proven to be no more than a cry for attention from April "PinkiePony" Davis). Take a look at a small sample of the anti-brony messages that Dragon Dick's is famous for.

Although many believe that the IDW comic series is not canon, we can thank one of the staff for further legitimizing the claim that it is; a Mr. Ted Anderson. Ted is the writer of the latest My Little Pony comic issue. A series of posts has people believing that Ted was the one who contacted Dragondicks/Cutosphere, and believes bronies are "gross". He is seen here holding a copy of the comic in question, and wearing a shirt that reads "literally anything before bros", featuring one of the popular anti-brony "mouthpiece" images that was circulating earlier this year.

Dragondicks brags about her OC "Glitter Punch" being included in the comic, and directly thanks Ted for including it.
Bigotry is now canon
When it was reported that DragonDick's OC was in the comic, many concerned readers went to the IDW forums for a answer to why would the comic maker would allow someone who actively hates the fandom to be included in the latest issue, and all they received was a basically pre-made PR response.

As mentioned earlier, it is now widely believed that Ted Anderson might be the staffer who Dragondicks/Cutosphere was contacted by, agreeing that bronies and male fans of mlp are "gross and scum" as mentioned in the tumblr post:

Fans are succinctly outraged at this slight against them, in the official media.
We will bring any new developments as they unfold.

Update: For those who do not know, The artist that Ted is referring to - David McGuire - is a comic artist for a webcomic called "Gastrophobia". He also draws pony art like this:

    1. Exactly my reaction. I hope this guy gets himself fired. I can't believe he doesn't think reverse sexism and racism don't exist, what a moron.

    2. If I were to say "tnuc wej yhtlif" that would be both reverse racism and reverse sexism. Racism and sexism against white males is still racism or sexism.

Nobdy would have noticed this if you had kept your mouth closed, but noooo....
You HAD to brag and now Ted is up to his neck in shit thanks to you.

      Delete
    2. No, if he's 'up to his neck in shit', it's his own damn fault.

Although, the more likely scenario is IDW giving 0 fucks about one of their employees promoting misandry & insulting the people they want to BUY the damn books.

I'll be completely honest. I normally pirate the comics, then buy the TPBs when they come out. Not anymore. Not only will I no longer be buying MLP, I'll no longer be buying Star Trek, Transformers, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And if they still had the Doctor Who license I'd stop buying that, too.

    5. So you think we should just continue to support someone who supports people who encourage violence against us? That makes as much sense as a gay man donating money to the Westboro Baptist Church.

    6. Don't forget that cuteosphere thinks rape porn is fine and the fetishization of sexual assault somehow doesn't spread "rape culture".

I wonder would Hasbro would think about this? What PR nightmare this could be if the parents who buy their merchandise knew what sort of person certain IDW employees were supporting...

  8. Wait a second... is it just me or is her OC portrayed as a villain? I mean, why is she wearing a spiked collar? Either she's evil or she's a dominatrix. In that case, maybe Ted Anderson is being secretly backhanding Dragon Dicks and calling her an evil dominatrix (they go together more than you'd think) and he's just letting her think it is a compliment. Or maybe he is pretending to like her because she has those incriminating pictures of him, and she blackmailed her way into the strip. Or maybe she stole her OC from someone else and Anderson is actually referencing little known tumblr user 'Johnny R. Ockhard'.

Or maybe I'm so stupid and delusional that I can't tell when somebody has gone full Literally Who. Either way, I'm screwed like Roxanne.

And we know Anderson is referencing her because he's reblogged from her, and bought the shit she sells.

      Delete
    3. Alright, so given the update, now I've got a new theory: Ted Anderson is either a SJW or he is so damn clueless about what DD produces that he's been sucked into the Asshole of Ignorance and thinks her stuff is 'satire'.

      I'm still screwed.

  10. I'm still pretty sure creators probably don't pay nearly as much attention to the fandom as we think they do, and probably aren't bothered by the same things we are. I have to wonder if Ted just thought the shirt was funny in a sort of ironic way.

I'm still annoyed that this happened, mind you. I just don't think they're quite aware of who's who in the fandom.

  11. DragonDicks is awful. She has a long history of ranting about "rape culture" and how she cares about all rape victims... and when one doesn't agree with her she screams that they clearly are not raped and that they made it up or are just using it to win arguments.

    2. Wow. WOW. Your "rape didn't count"? FUCK her. Hell, people undergo trauma of all kinds, and one of the easiest ways to move past it is to make it smaller by joking about it. No one needs to live in constant fear, misery and terror because of one horrible event in their life.

      What a bitch.

    3. Oh god. I would like to say I'm surprised, but really that is just DragonDicks being DragonDicks. I'm sorry she and her nasty piece of shit friend said those horrible things to you.

For someone who prattles on about "rape culture" she sure does have a nasty habit of telling rape victims that they are liars when they dare not bow down and lick her boots.

    6. Tumblr generally only cares about rape victims as props. When those props get uppity and don't let tumblr feminists speak for them, they are snarled at to shut up and stop enabling rape or that they weren't really raped. DragonDicks is no exception.

      Delete
    7. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, there was that time where she said there's nothing wrong with rape porn and that it's okay to fetishize rape.

    2. Oh, it's in the Annual. I was looking in issues 21 and 22 of the main series. I haven't yet purchased the Annual, but coincidentally, I was already planning on it being my last purchase of MLP comics to save money. Before this news hit, I was planning on going to the comic shop tomorrow and cancelling future holds under my name, for that reason "to save money". But the real reason was also because in addition to saving money, I figured I could get the comics online as PDFs later. This news just seals the deal for me.

      Delete
    3. That's the spirit, don't give them any money.
Spread this news to get sure they lose as many sales possible.

Because at the end of the day, IDW's staff gives zero fucks about the comic's quality, or if it crashes against the cartoon's canon, or if their artists are assholes, or if the readers are tired of their shit.
Zero fucks to all of that.

The only thing that can get a reaction from them is money, and if the comic sells less because of this incident, well.
Then they will give one fuck for every lost sale.

      Delete
    4. Hate to break it to you, but that's kind of the point. Creating quality work is important, but so is bringing food home to their families, paychecks for their bills, and payoff for their work. It is honestly not easy being an artist, and the fact that they have a fanbase to begin with is something to be admired.

      Delete
    5. I hate to break it you you as well, but when a paid worker is doing a bad job or breaks the company's internal rules, he either gets sanctioned or fired.
Your work carries the company's name on it, so fucking up means fucking up your company as well.

You will understand this the day you get a job and learn about responsbilities instead of being a brave and independent carefree special snowflake..

Does getting your appendix removed turn you into a butthurt thirty-something that has nothing better to do other than rant like a little child all day on a blog? I guess it does.

And yeah, if IDW doesn't do something about this, they can kiss my cash goodbye forever. Just as I was ready to start getting back into their comics, this neckbearded twat goes and plays the "friends with benefits" card for dickhead, the colossal faggot that's so colossal, they made hardened brony haters QUIT hating on bronies thanks to their amazingly retarded logic (shout out to miss mulp).

    4. There's a difference between 'expressing your opinion' and 'potentially exposing children to hatespeech'. Kids read this stuff, their parents let them go to this guy's blog, sees the stuff he reblogs and the people he reblogs from, and suddenly they think it's ok to physically harass any boy who likes something girly. Which, yes, one of the things this guy reblogged advocates.

      Delete
    5. So, are creators of children's entertainment should not be allowed to post family unfriendly stuff on their blogs?
And how would this barely noticeable cameo make kids exposed to hate speech?

      Delete
    6. We're not going to police him. We're going to vote with our wallets, and just not pay for his dreck. Sure, right now it won't make a dent in their profits, but if old Teddy and co. do this crap more often then more and more people will get fed up with it. In the end, we have rights as consumers to buy or not buy something. And if the creators don't want to go under, they'd better make damn sure they don't piss off those consumers.

      Delete
    7. Of course they shouldn't. Nickelodeon fired the voice of Leonardo from Ninja Turtles for posting inappropriate tweets. The actions of an employee have a direct effect on the company that employs them. There's this little thing called professionalism. Blogs are a public forum.
And the cameo was also pointed out on the blog, complete with links to dragondicks' blog, so any kids following a writer of their favorite comic is being given a direct link to hate speech.

So don't fucking dare to tell me to calm my tits to censor my right to say something while at the same time you claim that the other legbears has all the right to spray the internet with misandry and intolerance.

And the the company have a power over its employees. Which means that the company can infringe on its employees' freedom of expression. Which it does by firing and punishing them for their views. Sorry, I prefer personal freedom over corporate freedom.

      Delete
    10. Then how do I earn a living? I smell a "libertarian" manchild.
The distribution of power in our society is such that corporations can fuck people around without reprecursions.Right now you want the corporation to persecute its employee for his views that he posted in his personal tumblr. Sure, his views are questionable, but come on. Many people here visit 4chan and have views much more extravagant than those of your typical radfem. This could happen to any of us.

      Delete
    11. Cool Story, SJW.

You can have all the "views" you want, but you must take responsability for the shit you say and do in the name of your "views"
You don't get to throw rocks around and then hide your slingshot when you get people pissed off. And that's what all of those deranged tumblerinas do: play the internet tough guy card to sperg and bully people around, only to start crying, demanding rights and bringing out the long words when all the shit they spray around finally comes back to bite them in their XXXL ass.

      Delete
    12. He expressed his opinion, now they're expressing theirs. Having the right to express your opinion doesn't insulate you from the fallout of said opinion.

      Delete
    13. Well, their opinion that Teddy should face reprecussions is wrong and I said it. We are going around in circles.

If you think that words should be fought with anything but words you are against freedom of speech, period. I don't agree with what Teddy and Cuteosphere have said (although I appreciate the toxic humor), and I will at any time argue against their views, but that's it. Arguing against the views that you don't like is the only acceptable way to fight against them. Killing, beating, imprisoning and ruining someone's career for their views is totalitarian.

P.S. think of cuteosphere as feminist Wyatt Mann.

      Delete
    14. Read a book, anon. Or at least a webcomic. http://xkcd.com/1357/
Both "freedom of speech" and "totalitarianism" refer to government. If what Ted Anderson wrote offends readers, of course they're within their rights to stop reading, and let IDW know. And if it therefore materially harms his employer (if enough people boycott IDW's best-selling title) of course they're within their rights to take action to protect their interests.

TBH, I'm not certain this should be a fireable offence - all he did was include an OC, and it wasn't a Hitler or Bin Laden pony. (I'm also not certain it shouldn't be; his comments imply he knew he'd piss people off, so what the hell?) But FFS he's a *writer* - everything he does at work is "speech" - so by your warped logic he and all writers should be unfireable no matter what sort of garbage they churn out - it's all "free speech". He could turn in issue after issue of 24 pages of "fuck IDW, fuck MLP, fuck bronies" over and over again, and IDW would have to keep paying him for that unprintable garbage "because freedom of speech". What you say also implies that someone who verbally abuses their coworkers or spouse shouldn't be fired or divorced. The worst anyone should ever experience as a result would be, "Hey! C'mon!"

There are miles and miles between those repercussions which we'd all agree are appropriate, and your straw man repercussions of "killing, beating, imprisoning" which we'd all agree aren't. (And which I happily haven't seen anyone advocate, though I haven't read every single comment.) Your argument doesn't show any subtlety or any understanding of the real world.

      >Blah blah first amendment
I don't care, I'm not American. Even if I was American, I wouldn't hold a piece of paper to a sacred status. What I care about is people being actually able to speak their mind.

Thinking that only government can affect your freedom of speech is an extremely naive view, which betrays thinking in line with this particularly American, corporation-firendly, ideology of Libertarianism. In reality, corporations have the power to apply censorship; anyone who had to deal with Youtube knows this.

Yes, companies should be able to contol what their their emplyees produce as part of their job. (Although in reality the industry is exploitative, and companies want all control and no responsibility, which they impose in contracts.) But honestly, the only part of this whole fiasco that has to do with Ted's professional actions is the tiny cameo that nobody would've even noticed. It seems that people just wanted to punish Ted for being an "SJW".

      Delete
    17. Anon, freedom of expression is not limited to what words people write, but also the money they spend and the actions they take. He expressed his views by buying products from an "anti-brony" and putting controversial OCs in the comic; bronies responded in kind by not buying his products; the company's representatives will express their views by firing him if they so desire.

Whether the company is censoring is a moot point; many companies have fired people in the past for insulting their customers and will continue to do so in the future. If this is something you disagree with, you must hold to the principle at all times, even if a company's CEO funded anti-gay media or anything else easily considered highly political; I won't guess on whether you have or not, but the standards apply no matter the group involved.

He expressed his free opinion and he will continue to be able to express his opinion, just not in the employ of this company.

This man also expressed himself by choosing to work for this company and sign those contracts. Many artists have made successful businesses without companies, meaning he was not forced to work for them to be an artist. He had free reign over the market, sold himself, and later wanted to change the terms of the sale; like any other business, they gave him a refund.

Were you the one who laughed at others for being libertarian? If you didn't know, freedom of expression is on the libertarian side of politics. There are many subsets of libertarianism, with some being conservative and others being liberal, with some being anarchist, with some being capitalists and others being socialists. Brushing someone off for having libertarian ideals would likely require brushing yourself off.

    3. So, I've followed the "Glitter Punch"-gate for a while and came to the conclusion: not different at all. As a result of the fan uprising on the IDW forums there will be no more fan references in future comics and Ted got a shaft because of this thing being blown out of any reasonable proportions (I wonder what kind of opinion he has on bronies now). So, I guess, we bronies can hurt people just as much as the rabid SJW cunts if not more...

  23. Well that does it for me. I've been an avid supporter of IDW for quite some time now. Ninja turtles, star trek, doctor who, ghostbusters, and pony. Haven't missed an issue of either of them, and all are physical copies bought from the comic book store. I've braved ridicule from my peers to support IDW.

I believe in equality. No matter what your race or gender, you are equal in my eyes. There isn't much a man can do that a woman can't, if anything really. And vice versa. But blind hatred and bigotry is blind hatred and bigotry, no matter who it comes from. A woman advocating the death of all men is just as bad as a sexsist asshole that advocates rape. If IDW is now supporting these monsters, they can say goodbye to my money, and my support.

The fact that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, a show made by a genuine feminist that opposes all of DragonDicks' insanity, is now advocating it in an official product is disgusting. I'm very disappointed and I'm sorry to say goodbye to them.

That's shitty, yes, but it's a bit different from someone who WRITES for the comics, as in does work on the actual comics themselves instead of just the covers, and is an actual employee rather than a freelancer, advocating the physical assault of his readers.
When you get right down to it, Yamino's Derpy bitching was, while idiotic, misguided but well-intentioned. What Dragondicks and Ted have done is not only blatantly bigoted, it most places it would be seen as illegal, as it falls under the designation of hate speech. It is literally a call for violence towards a group of people (and if calling for violence towards bronies doesn't count, a call for violence towards men certainly does)

  28. The newest post from the comic editor:

"I have been talking to Ted about the subject. More on that soon. I appreciate everyone's thoughts on the subject, and allowing me the time to investigate. To reiterate, it's my (and IDW's) goal to make these comics as inclusive as possible, to all people, of all ages. Obviously, the depiction of this background pony, regardless of intent, is counter to that goal.

I will also discuss the subject of background ponies with the entire staff of the book. I always try and give the artists a good deal of freedom in this regard, as it is my opinion that the more fun they are having drawing, the more fun will translate to the page for the reader. That is obviously not what happened at all in this circumstance, and as such, we will be reviewing what is and isn't acceptable. At the end of the day, we want these books to be fun, and if that isn't what's happening, we need to review our approach.

This is an evolving discussion, and I appreciate everyone's respect during it."

While it's still left to be seen how they intend to handle the situation, at least at this point Ted's boss seem to be acknowledging that including that character was, for lack of a better term, a royal fuck-up.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Man, I really want to believe this is all just a huge misunderstanding. I mean, putting an OC in a comic is hardly espousing hatespeech. I just (downloaded and) read the annual yesterday, and I sure as hell didn't notice that panel, nor would I have recognized the character if I had. There's a big difference between "telling off bronies who are gross" and "telling off bronies, who are gross", and I'd like to think Mr. Anderson just isn't on the same page as this artist as to as whether that comma belongs there, if only because actively hating on your fanbase is about the dumbest decision to make.

On the other hand, I'm now rethinking my decision to purchase the annual. Unless there's an update later on to clear things up, I may avoid buying comics written by Anderson in the future. Not like I've been buying a lot of them right now...

I think Dragondicks would love to hear how pleased we are that she is not actually a brony hater and doesn't think we are gross. Man, I sure do feel bad for thinking she was a brony hater. I feel we should extend a hand of friendship to her. All of us. And let her know we have Ted to thank for clearing up the confusion. Thank you Ted.

I see people getting upset because other people are suggesting that maybe y'all shouldn't take the Internet too seriously.

    Okay, what are we, Tumblr?

(I don't like dragondicks, don't like their "humor", and I am a bit disappointed that someone's OC made it this easily into the comics. I'm honestly happy knowing that won't do it again.)

Ted thinks Dragondicks is being satirical. Whether or not Dragondicks actually *is* or not, I think that says a lot about Ted's position. He doesn't take her words too seriously.

Hell, I'll retweet shit not because I agree with it, but sometimes it's to show others. "Get a load of this bullshit". So I share, because I'm amused. That said, I don't think "retweeting/reblogging" is automatically implicit agreement with the content.

Let's be clear. Yes, the OC in question is tiny and barely noticeable, in the grand scheme of things probably noone would have noticed it if he hadn't blogged about it and she hadn't boasted. The point isn't that there was a front cover with femmepony screaming "I love misandry," it's the fact that the comic (and your money) is being used as a platform to openly support this stuff.

Also, what does DragonDicks have to say about any of this? He basically dismisses everything she has ever done as satire. A joke. Not serious. Which means she actually likes bronys? Was she for Molestia then? And her "satire" was making fun of Pinkiepony? I haven't heard anyone say anything about her since this all began, surely she's made a "statement" by now.

    2. The local mod does NOT work for IDW. He was simply keeping the discussion civil. As far as Anderson goes, according to the local mod (who talked to the rep from IDW), the writers and artists for IDW are freelancers (with a few possible exceptions... this franchise not being one of them). So it is quite easy for IDW to cut ties with Anderson... just don't commision him for any additional comics, and sever his involvement with the ones he's been assigned for future release. Have someone else come up with a story, and everyone's happy (except Anderson and DD).
