Okay, okay, so it's only a hiatus, but we have to clickbait as we aren't the bigger press outfits like Equestria Daily... although the biggest press outlets like the Daily Mail need to...  creative tax arrangements don't come cheap. Anyway, Sara spoke to us about her upcoming work up to issue #90 of the comics and, now that Clover Press dropped The Book of Oz, chock full of her illustrations, they're thinking of a second release. We got to talk to Jesse Nowack, voice actor of Seras from Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, Red from Fist Master, and a load of roles in Pokemon Abridged, all from Team Four Star. He also had some advice for voice actors in the middle of a transition of gender, having been there himself. He had to redo lines, such as Red's, but he was able to work it all out. This video contains lots of apes, you have been warned. Chelis was directing this video and as we all know is obsessed with Simpsons memes like Dr. Zaius... so is Duke as well, so he has no right to complain, but still.

Pencils Makes It Professionally With Pony- Now an IDW artist

Famed purveyor of pony butts as well as creator of the popular fan comic series "Anon's Pie Adventures" Pencils finally has had his first cover for the comics shown. While initially there was some confusion, it was eventually revealed that though the cover does not go with issue #58, it goes with the next, issue #59. Pencils took to /mlp/ today to elaborate on the exciting news, and had even more to add.

Jay Fosgitt Does It Again: Fan Art Designs Used in Comic

Jay Fosgitt, who is no stranger to rather scummy art choices that are often illegal or lazy, appears to have done it again. In the Guardians of Harmony Annual (actually not that bad, as an aside) Fosgitt decided to have the climax of the final section include a power-up sequence where the Mane Six get armor. Problem is, he cribbed the design directly from a fanartist, Equestria-Prevails.

Celebration Arc Overshadowed By Waifu War Shade

 In what was supposed to be the "thrilling" conclusion to another "this character but evil" story by IDW, that glorious bastard Andy Price threw some major shade on all that waifu Sunset Shimmer and re-ignited the on-going Glimmer-Shimmer War. What started out as a background gag turned into full scale melt downs across the fandom, and the fires have been smoldering since the comic's release.

IDW Announces New Comic Series

IDW today announced a new comic series that will replace the long-running Friends Forever line. Legends of Magic will, in its first arc, explore some of the biggest questions relating to the series: who really was Starswirl the Bearded? Where did cutie marks come from? And perhaps most importantly: Why are they not doing this in the damn show itself?

Guardians of Harmony Comic Released; HN Writer Proven Wrong

For some reason, Hasbro decided to release yesterday, unannounced, the first issue of the new Guardians of Harmony comic. As I'm sure our longtime readers are aware, we at HN tend to be critical of both the IDW comics as well as the author of this particular one, and even predicted doom for it.

Imagine our surprise when it turned out to be pretty good.

Between movie news and the prospect of a new, more "gender neutral" series of Guardians of Harmony toys and comics, many were pleasantly surprised to see the new direction of the franchise. That is, until news about the accompanying comics was revealed today.

Jeremy Whitley and The Continuing Decline of IDW

    

Jeremy Whitley is no stranger to controversy. Be it Dragontown that was an allegory for racial tension in the US, Twilight "For the Right Reasons" Sparkle, Radiant Hope waifuing a redeemed Sombra, or even just his tendency to textwall, there is no shortage of drama whenever he releases a comic. However, a continuing saga on Twitter shows that we have entered a new era of obsession and it signals further the decline of IDW's MLP.

The Further Downfall of IDW: The Friends Forever Issue #24 Fiasco

A couple weeks back, the twenty fourth issue of the Friends Forever series was released. Written by Georgia Ball (who had previously written the eighth issue of IDW's Micro-Series, which was rather well received), it featured Rarity supporting Gilda's boffyball team while she designed their team uniform.

While Ball's writing was relatively solid, the comic failed spectacularly in other departments. More after the break.

IDW hits new low in laziness?

By now, we've become quite accustomed to the laziness of IDW comics. USUALLY the laziness is in the writing, when they decide to completely ignore (or completely copy) the show's canon for their stories. This time is a little different. 

Today, anons reading the new release of Friends Forever #22 noticed a very out-of-place art style in a conspicuous location of the final frame of the comic.

It appears that the artist opted to use clipart from the first results of Google Images for one of the character's cutie marks.
