RNC Uses Twilight Sparkle to Defend Melania Trump; Fandom Reacts As You Would Expect

Unless you've been under a rock for the past few hours, you've undoubtedly heard the news: in order to defend Melania Trump's plagiarism of a 2008 Michelle Obama speech, an RNC spokesman attempting to make a point about how common the phrases supposedly are used a quote from "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" Welcome to American politics in 2016.

The quote in question comes from RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer and attempts to draw parallels between two comments, seemingly out of context: ""Melania Trump said, 'the strength of your dreams and willingness to work for them.' Twilight Sparkle from 'My Little Pony' said, 'This is your dream. Anything you can do in your dreams, you can do now,' "

Spicer of course was quoting the scene where Twilight compels the residents of Ponyville in their literal dreams to band together to fight the Tantabus. However, in order to defend Melania Trump, Spicer chose to go for the horsefucker route in an attempt to convince people that there was no plagiarism.

Many were simply excited to see bedroom eyes on CNN's front page (art by Godoffury)

With the election just months away, one can only wonder if a newcomer, Twilight Sparkle, will manage to make some inroads and present herself as a viable candidate. Given that the level of discourse is now on her level, a magical talking princess pony might be a realistic option for American voters. Meanwhile, Faust, fresh from her own recent controversies, seemed to relish in the attention. Strong as well had statements:
"Lovin' this!"

She was less happy about it

Regardless of ones politics, the fact that Twilight Sparkle is now recognized by a major political party and used to defend statements of a presidential candidate can only lead us to one question as a country: "How the fuck did we get here?"

    2. This is so embarrassing.

Then again, maybe she's just getting the same kicks we are from this. I hope that's the case, but then she's always been kind of an August on social media.

    3. She's hella shy, not much for huge publicity, she just likes to make people happy. If she was this bent on being famous she would have stayed on the show, then again, she's cemented forever as a staple in animation history, so she has nothing to worry about.

I think she just thinks this is funny, like, she's very... soft spoken, to see her work being used as a last ditch effort to save some ass hat's kid must be genuinely hilarious!

  4. Sean Spicer's excuse pretty much amounts to "it wasn't me, officer. I was at the scene of another crime"

  7. It's like someone just did a search for "quotes about dreams" and tried to find anything that sticks.

  9. Godoffury's profile on Deviantart says that he's from Mexico, so it kinda figures that CNN just stole his artwork for this. Irony anyone?..

      I'm not even kidding.

I think she might have deleted THAT particular tweet, but she's also follows Anita Sarkeesian and has retweeted from The Mary Sue for years, so it's more believable than you'd think.

    5. Not sure what you are smoking. The (deleted?) Faust Tweet cited the top of that thread read "I guess Zach Braff thinks the interests of girls are not worth talking about."

Not sure WTF that has to do with Ghostbusters.

  11. A spectre is haunting America — the spectre of Twilight Sparkle. All the powers of old America have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre. Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as Twilight Sparkle by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of Twilight Sparkle, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?

Two things result from this fact:

    I. Twilight Sparkle is already acknowledged by all American powers to be itself a power.

II. It is high time that Twilight Sparkle should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish her views, her aims, her tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the Spectre of Twilight Sparkle with a manifesto of the Princess itself.

  13. This is crazy! Twilight Sparkle would NEVER defend the Trumps; Twilight's a genius. The Trumps are idiots. It's as simple as that. Twilight is too smart to support them.
