Rarity joins Scottish Independence movement

"Support Unicorn Independence. Vote Yes"

It is a little known fact that the national animal of Scotland is actually the Unicorn. It is the only country to have this distinction, and it is currently preparing for a vote among its citizenry, determining the future of the proud nation of highlanders. The referendum vote for Scottish independence is coming this week, with a hard split between voters, with half being in support of exiting the union, and half in favor of staying. A new voice has joined those advocating for independence; the national symbol of Scotland itself - a Unicorn. Her name is Rarity.

"Ever since I can remember, us unicorns have been treated like lower-class citizens to the Royals and the Alicorns. Sure we have it better than the Earthy peasantry in Ireland, but I see no reason why we should be forced to stay subservient to a crown that lost its meaning long ago."

When asked why she felt the need to voice her support of the movement, when she herself does not reside in Scotland, the Unicorn became quite passionate.

"My whole family are unicorns, and we work hard for what we have. I don't feel like we should be forced to sacrifice our efforts to build up the alicorns across the border."

The issue is very divided, a fact that the stunning white unicorn commented on.

"I used to have a friend that was a unicorn, who were just as in favor of freedom and indepence as I was. Then she turned sides and became an alicorn princess, just another royal to look down upon us. As the last pure unicorn with any sort of influence, it's up to me to help preserve our proud heritage in any way I can. If that means wanting to split from a kingdom where commoners become royalty arbitrarily, then so be it."

Rarity is not the only celebrity expatriate who is speaking in favor of the independence movement. Sean Connery, notorious badass also urges his fellow Scotsmen to break away from Britain, as the opportunity is too good to miss.

HorseFamous and notoriously level-headed scholar from the UK "Foal Papers" notes that "it would be a shame to lose them" but sympathizes with their viewpoint.

Royalty has chimed in on the matter, reminding voters to think carefully on the matter, and the future of their long friendship. Princess Twilight, a former Unicorn, has declined to public comment on the issue.

"We can't have the same friendship when we aren't treated as equals" Rarity said in closing. "For our friendship to truly continue, we need that equality."

    1. Because the Scottish hate the English, and despite all the other arguments the pro-independence side will come up with, that's all it really comes down to. Scotland's always wanted to be independent, regardless of whether or not it'll actually be better for them.

  5. Diversity in strategies is interesting and necessary. Australia chose to stay with the queen. If Scotland did the same, it would be damn boring. ... The decision is also a matter of sending a signal about imperialism. (Better late than never, haha.)
You know the saying, right? If you truly love something, you have to let it go.

    1. Oh, just read that the 'majority' voted No. Somehow my cynical=realistic side was afraid this might happen.
