IDW Announces New Comic Series

IDW today announced a new comic series that will replace the long-running Friends Forever line. Legends of Magic will, in its first arc, explore some of the biggest questions relating to the series: who really was Starswirl the Bearded? Where did cutie marks come from? And perhaps most importantly: Why are they not doing this in the damn show itself?
Frequent article subject Jeremy Whitley, who also wrote the first chapter of the Guardians of Harmony Annual due in February, is writing the first arc. It will be drawn by Brenda Hickey, who is making a return to ponies after a long hiatus.

Ponies find out the truth
Given the declining sales of IDW's Friends Forever line in spite of its popularity and (generally) consistent quality in the face of poor main series stories, it is not surprising to see its replacement come along in a year where Hasbro really wants ponies to be a big thing. Whether or not giving the guy who thought Siege of the Crystal Empire and Dragontown were good additions to the lore of the franchise more control, and possibly tying it in with the seventh season of the show was a good idea remains to be seen. Many Anons remained confused about the supposed connection to season seven, and why something so important to the lore was being given to the comics. The description of the arc follows:

"My Little Pony: Legends of Magic #1
Jeremy Whitley (w) • Brenda Hickey (a & c)

Issue 1 will debut sometime in April. Who is hyped for the issue Fosgitt will probably draw?

  1. So we probably later eventually get more shitty writing by Ted and more lame illustrations by some shitty "artists". Just under another hyped name.

  3. This is a disturbing set of events for the show. Having someone like Whitely, a man hating SJW feminist anywhere near the TV show concerns me greatly. This a guy who was willing to punch people who disagrees with him at cons which he posted on his Twitter account. I hate this modern day feminism and long for the day of the traditional feminists which Lauren Faust seemed to be one of the last of the breed.

Still it could be worse. If Ted Anderson ever writes for the show I will never watch the show again and will send a pretty scathing letter to Hasbro explaining with evidence why a male brony hater sympathiser is a terrible person to have working on the show.

    1. The only thing I can think of doing is to write to IDW/Hasbro, explain what Whitley said and did, along with Anderson, and even in a way, Heather Breckel who also insulted fans calling them "douchebags who shouldn't even associate themselves with something that promotes kindness", was VERY wrong in every way, that the partnership should be terminated, and that those three should be fired, why not? Nobody fucking likes them. I also think I speak the truth when I say that they are the worst comic book company ever to exist on the planet, I'm not kidding.

And frankly if Whitley, a man himself, hates men and is an SJW feminist, then why doesn't he just change his gender to a woman (not to offend any transgenders)?

  4. It's cheaper to do comics, no animation crew (murrican or cheap foreign slaves), no overpriced voice actors to eat the budget. Give the major thing to what costs less to produce.

    1. Plus give it to idiots and morons like Whitely and Anderson to write. Feels like Hasbro is taking the G3 route to getting this out.

They probably will eventually cover some of this material in the show and it will completely contradict everything in the comics, as usual.

    2. At least it'll prove some shitty comics non-canon, The Crystalling proved that Siege was non-canon as no Umbrum came out when Flurry Heart destroyed the Crystal Heart.

  7. This comic should hire the artist i want and the writer i want and cater to my tastes.By the way ,did i mentionned i stopped buying the comics today. It's very important for people to know that i'm never going to a comic shop and exchanging money for those comics, which i dont read,by the way i think people ought to know that today i didnt go to a market specialized in the trading of illustrated sequential juxtaposed panels that represent individual scenes and participate in an exchange of goods because i dont read the comics therefore it's onlyl ogical that the editorial choices of the publishing house should cater to my taste.I dont read the comic

  8. I don't know who the babbies are whining about, all I know is I find the comics more entertaining than the cartoon.

The cartoons were nothing more than 10 minutes of herp-hurr-durr FRIENDSHIP! No one cries, no one bleeds, no scarring conflicts, no one is allowed emotion beyond happy, confused and retarded.

    Fite me, hasbrone bitcheez.

    1. You pretty bought the ones worth getting, the rest are either plain insulting, awful or mediocre. At least in terms of the main series. The only series worth getting imo is the Micros, one or two are pretty weak but overall it's the best we'll likely ever get from IDW.

  14. Only IDW comics I got were main #1-8, and #13-20, I liked all of them, flaws and all.

This comic series however does not look good at all, thee first arc most likely is going to suck, considering Whitley proved himself a hack with #34-37 and Friends Forever #28 and seeing how he can't take criticism like a man and doesn't know that threats are illegal.

Frankly I want to write to IDW/Hasbro, explain what Whitley said and did (along with Anderson, and even in a way, Heather Breckel who also insulted fans calling them "douchebags who shouldn't even associate themselves with something that promotes kindness") was VERY wrong, and he should be fired, why not? Nobody fucking likes him. Anyone else with me?

And yeah, give me Katie Cook any day over that overrated fanfiction writer hack.

  15. Plus, one other thing, what's with the G1 ponies on the stone thing on the cover? G1 MLP ISN'T a previous generation that existed like 1,000 years ago to FiM, Dream Valley and G1 MLP are in a different world entirely to FiM, like two different universes from what I've heard.
