Sony Music shutting down Pony Remixes on Youtube

The fandom is no stranger to the endless onslaught of Cease and Desist letters, threats of legal action, and especially copyright claims. However it's been long assumed that pony-music-remixes, like most musical re-arrangements, were largely safe from such claims, as they fall into the realm of fair use. This doesn't seem to be the case, as numerous MLP remixes have begun receiving content claims from Sony Music, who are blocking the tracks on Youtube.
DJ Midli, was among those affected by this wave of content claims by SME (Sony Music Entertainment).

"I hope it's just an oversight on Hasbro's part and as soon as they realize what Sony is doing they tell them to "Chill bruh."  Midli said.  "Hasbro and Ingram themselves have been pretty great, letting the remixes/mixes stay up but monetizing it. We get to share our creative works of love for the series, and they get a bit of cash. With Sony coming in guns blazing, it severely damages the creative aspect this fandom is known and loved for."

The claims appear to be far-reaching, and affecting even non-monetized tracks. Artists speculate that this could spell the end for youtube-based MLP remixes in the future. It is unclear how far-reaching the claims are, or if they will continue.

  1. As a shit-tier musician with a handful of copyright claims, this kinda thing frightens me. I hope shit gets figured, but I'm doubting it will

  7. How can sony claim the copyright, of all things? What have they got to do with the My Little Pony theme, or the songs?

It's because Legacy released the official songs on the official compilation albums you see back and forth, and we're all getting hit.

  9. SME is literally a fandom-attacking army militants. They have been attacking not only fans of MLP but fandoms of all kinds who create content published to youtube. Because youtube is being a lazy bum-ass and not fixing their copyright problems, there is no fair use anymore. People can literally walk up to youtube and came any claim, true or false, on any video. Youtube believes them and shuts down the video. It's a case of "You're always guilty of something you didn't do because we believe no one lies to us about copyright." Sony Music Entertainment needs to burn in hell (many of their copyright claims are on videos that never even contained ANY content made by or owned by them)
