Brony DJ Legend Garnika Passes Away

*TRIGGER WARNING: MuShrooshi is not good at sarcasm*

We have sad news to report here at Horse News.

One of the most prominent performers in the brony music community, Kevin Garnika, has passed away suddenly earlier today following hospitalization from acute porteroxia. Garnika was known for his energetic performances at the biggest brony conventions such as BronyCon, BABSCon, and Equestria LA, as well as being a member of the funky DJ supegroup The SAVORY.
Many of us at Horse News have been hit hard by the news. We will be updating this post soon with information about services.

  4. I don't want to come off sounding like an insensitive prick by saying "Who?", but at the same time, I have no idea who the heck this person is.

Did he have a stage name...?

  5. Real talk though Garnika and HorseNews can go fuck themselves. That was uncool and fucked. I couldn't double check for an hour and thought Garnika was actually dead. Don't expect a mixed drink from me again, asshole. Garnika/HorseNews faking deaths for attention or some fucked reason. Fucking fuck I've had so much death in my life the past year fuck you both. I'm having a melt down. I can't do this. Bye.

Otherkin meltdown from Tumblr? Nope, just horsefamous wannabe Brony Emdefmek:

    1. The disease Horse News used was called acute porteroxia. "Porter"oxia. Garnika couldn't see "Porter" Robinson live. HUGE FUCKING RED FLAG that this thing was fake. Garnika had nothing to do with the article either, he just found the fake disease humorous and decided to play along.

  8. Horsenews, dammit, not cool. I'm not going to sue you for what you did with me just now, but next time be careful before making bronies upset.
(To anyone who doesn't know, this is all fake... acute porteroxia doesn't exist.)

  9. Definitely a lot of wiser choices could've been made with this joke. I know the DJs really got a kick out of all the rustled jimmies, but using HN as the mouthpiece of the joke had some unintended side effects.

For one, when this was first posted, the "porteroxia" was buried in an article with this same URL and headline, but no indication of sarcasm. Yes, if you know who Porter Robinson is, and that Garnika's a fan, you'll draw the connection that this isn't a real disease. A bunch of people *didn't* know these things, so it was just a shitty inside joke gone wrong, and they saw no reason that the article would be fake.

"But it's on Horse News, everything is fake!" you say. No, you know that's not true. HN has blown the lid off of a number of very real news items in the fandom, and typically goes out of its way to distinguish fact from fiction, using fake names or being excessively obvious (and adding the now-present Satire tag) stories to protect them from accusations of libel. Granted, libel isn't an issue here, but before the article was updated, there was a very thin veneer of fictionality to the story.

Now, picture what happened to us: you're off your computer, and you see someone in a chat say "holy shit" and then link to a HN article with the URL "brony-dj-legend-garnika-passes-away.html". You can't go verify it, and nobody in that group understands the "porteroxia" joke, so a bunch of people legitimately think someone just died, and they're pretty fucking upset about that. It's only when you get home that you figure out it was just for the lulz.

There, you see how this could've gone south pretty fucking fast?

I don't care if it's not true. I don't care if the guy's in on the joke himself. Using a site like this to fuck around with people and giving them that gut-sinking feeling of mixed terror and sadness that comes with hearing someone young in your own fandom died, even for a second, is pretty shitty.

I don't know for sure who posted this, but I can probably pick from about 2 potential people, both are people who have lots of moments where their "inner manchild" runs free, and they lose the ability to distinguish between their giggly fun times and the real-world impact they're having.

HN can, and should, do better than this.

    1. Buddy, you sure write a fucking lot. Could you please take your shitposting elsewhere? I'm trying to read what normal people gots to say on this issue. Thanks.

    2. I disagree. no one really knows or cares who garnika is in the first place, so they'd probably be glad to hear another retarded horse famous twat dj died

  10. That's NOT funny, Horse News. You've sunk even lower than EQD

  11. All the "SAVORY" DJs, or whatever they are called, that use the weird upside down V for an A on all their twitter accounts, have been doing these fake death announcements on Twitter for a while now. Thus I knew this was fake the moment I saw it.

I find it funny that horse-news is getting in on this, though. Seems like such a stupid circle-jerk inside joke for a whole article to be posted about it.

    Then again, bronies love circle-jerks.
