Youtube Sleaze stealing pony music, copyrighting it, content ID'ing original artists.

It never ceases to amaze how some people can straight-up INVENT new ways to be total shitpiles (apparently the word shitpile is copyrighted by tumblr) assholes. Today's specimen should technically be old-news, but the repercussions are fairly recents as far as these things go. Meet Darren Ross, a "musician" who is literally hijacking brony-musician's tracks, copyrighting them, selling them on itunes, and then content-IDing the original tracks.

In August of 2013, pony-music maker TAPS dropped this track onto Youtube; a remix of the Cafeteria Song from the first Equestria Girls movie sountrack. It received over 87000 views since it was posted.

In April, this happened. Darren Ross releases a video...with the same name as TAPS's...featuring the exact same track, with some staticy microphone yelling overtop of the parts where there are no vocals.

Now, none of this would be an issue, if not for what he did next.

He took the song to itunes, with a pricetag. That's right, he's selling this thing.
Now, you're probably saying "what's wrong with selling a remix (if you could call this that)?"
Simple.
Now that "his" track is on itunes and is seen as copyrighted, the original track has now been content ID'd.

This means that TAPS now has to send traffic to Darren, because Youtube believes that Darren's track came first, and all sorts of other repercussions,

To add insult to injury, Darren doesn't even know the lyrics to this song.

There you have him, your sleaze of the day.

  10. I'd say start spamming the negative iTunes reviews and down vote the video on Youtube. I just wrote a review saying that the song is stolen and should be removed immediately from iTunes.

  12. Ponescummery aside, I'm more into speculating how a balding lardlord like him can score pussy.
I've got 10 buttcoins on 'cash', he's definitely not winning anyone with swagger or looks.

    1. He's desperate enough to steal youtube bux from pony songs on the internet, so that's money out of the question, which leaves... voodoo?

  13. I wonder if Hasbro or DHX would be interested to know that this guy is making money off of a song that belongs to them on itunes?

    1. This. I can't believe no one else said this sooner. As much as I feel bad for TAPS, the song's copyright was never his to begin with, it's Ingram's/Hasbro's.

Someone should mail them (or tweet Ingram, he apparently loves interacting over Twitter).

  16. out of all the music copyright things I've seen in the fandom, this is definitely one of the more complex one. Renard and Luceds both had some trouble (the former being sued for using a copyrighted work in his music and the latter for stealing music to further his imaginary fame). and the only reason it's complex is what do we do to correct it? He put his song on iTunes and the content ID registers that, which takes traffic/revenue from TAPS and sends it to this guy. How exactly do you fix that? What things do you have to go through with YouTube and iTunes with this? Could Hasbro get involved like the Seventh Element remix case and direct funds to them? What is the steps here?

  17. according to TAPS' Tumblr blog, he filed a dispute with YouTube. so if Darren Ross doesn't do anything within 30 days, his claim is dead. http://t--a--p--s.tumblr.com/post/116377249459

  19. GUYS. Looks like he might have stole other music from the fandom too.
Not too sure, but probably. The 'swag' from this song if from .mov?
So probably another stolen remix. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--uZEZ1jzWE
