What the hell does "Electric Cello Dubstep" mean

Since the premier of the Season this weekend, information about future episodes has been flowing out with greater frequency. Last night this post by cellist Tina Guo confirmed that the Fan Service Extravanganza known as episode 100 will feature a an "Electric Cello Dubstep Situation".

Now, if you're like us, you're probably wondering - what the actual fuck does that mean?
Well we went looking for examples of "Electric Cello Dubstep".
Here's what we found.

Here is one example by the artist herself.

Here's another with a larger group of musicians.

So the question is: How do you feel about this, not knowing anything else?

The 100th Episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic airs on June 13, and Octavia has a huge Electric Cello Dubstep situation in the episode! Cello Guo had an awesome time working with William Anderson on the score, it will be airing on the Discovery Family Channel

  1. Dubstep is the worst music there is. I rather prefer grindcore and alike.

  2. Dubstep? More like douchestep. Amirite?

  3. I hope they make something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyGhtTYU4xI

  4. Don't forget that one of the reasons people hate dubstep is because fans of different things who have no musical talent are the ones who make dubstep remixes and shit that everyone hates. It's a little different when you have professional composers making the music. That said, this episode should be just ok for me, as long as I can drown out the sound of thousands of brony derps crying in the satisfaction of their feeling of validation.

  5. That Skrillex knows what 'Cello Dubstep' is, and can actually perform it should tell one exactly how amazing this musical genre is. Basically rated at slightly above piercing ones own eardrums with hot needles.

Unless it is Skillrex's dubstep, in which case the needles definitely take priority.

Really not sure why the writers decided Octavia needed to be re-created as Vinyl 2.0, not terribly impressed with this news myself.

    1. I'd guess they're going with the fanon of them being friends, and she's either doing it for or with Vinyl.

  6. Dubstep? I thought we moved out of my first fl studio bass mixes back in 2011.

  7. Electric cello dubstep sounds horrible but after listening to the second video it's actually kinda cool. It might be a little bit too much in regards to fanservice, but let's keep going and see what happens.

    1. The concept sounds shit but those three examples are pretty good, though the guys in the middle video really need to just play the music and stop doing all that... dancing? Flare? I don't know what it is but faggotry is the word that came to mind immediately which I'm sure someone will find offensive.

  8. I predict episode 100 will just be a bunch of god damn pandering. I wish they'd show some guts and go against fandom, like maybe have Octavia be a big goofball that talks like a hillbilly, and Vinyl could be slow and have a New Jersey construction worker voice (like Dr. Girlfriend).

    1. I too hope they pander to backwoods hillbillies and New Jersey 5-pack-a-day construction workers

  9. Unless a spicy scene with both Vinyl and Octavia is involved in creating this monstrosity, you can count me out.

  10. Dubstep is not a genre. It's a sound effect.

  11. Honestly bored with the mane 6, they have become characters of themselves from seasons 1 and 2. So having an episode without them excites me, morso that it will have a modern genere of music that sounds nice.
