Love and Tolerate used in a new song, /mlp/ sighs

Yesterday, a new Hasbro Studio Short was released, featuring a brand new song and rehashed, reheated footage from Equestria Girls 1. This would have been otherwise unremarkable, if not for the inclusion of exactly one line, harkening back to the early days of the fandom.

/mlp/ collectively sighed an exhausted sigh.

Long ago, Hasbro included the words "Bronies" and "DJ-Pon3" into the original song "Equestria Girls", a charming HUB promo, letting us know that they knew we were out there.

Yesterday, it happened again, as the line "Love and Tolerate" was included in the new song.

The response was one of apathetic exhaustion and smoldering discontent.
The phrase "love and tolerate", which many fans adopted as a mantra since the fandom began, gained popularity as a joke response to internet trolling, particularly on 4chan. The phrase spread with the creation of this image which was passed around the internet, as a substitute for violent threats.

Many modern fans have absolutely no idea that the entire concept of "love and tolerate" is actually a joke rooted in the suggestion of violence. Now it has a place in the official media from Hasbro.

Only 36% of /mlp/ users in a small poll approved of the song, when asked "Did you like the most recent song from the My Little Pony Friends video?"

2 anons made promises to physically eat their pony merchandise and shit it out in front of Hasbro employees if Twilight has a relationship with Flash Sentry.

And so the beat marches on, Forward, into the hiatus.

  1. A bit slow to the draw, Hasbro. We stopped using that before the second season was over.

  3. In all honesty, the song wasn't half bad. I wouldn't have even noticed the "love and tolerate" part if hadn't been pointed out.

  4. Because loving and tolerating totally isn't something that would be promoted in a show that is about the magic of friendship. Sometimes you guys make too much spaghetti.

    1. >a show that shows ponies being unreasonably afraid and almost racist to the one Zebra in town
      >a show that shows ponies being classist to other ponies from lesser income towns and backgrounds
      >a show that shows ponies being taken advantage of for their kindness and generosity

I mean, yeah, the show is all about making friends in the end, but let's not think for one second that any of these ponies are about "loving and tolerating" right off of the bat here.

... at least, they were back when the show had more solid writing and stories, but that's left for another discussion.

    2. You say they were way back when, but fail to realize that 'Bridle Gossip' was literally the 9th episode of the entire series?

    3. The majority of shaky morals and sloppy writing came from Season 1. Owl's Well had a fucking animal being treated with equal to or greater respect than Spike, the ponies' FRIEND. Bridle Gossip had the racist problem. The list goes on.

Fact is, Faust was too busy fighting Hasbro to make sure the episodes were coherent and had good moral delivery. I mean, according to FPK, we should just believe things without evidence, because sometimes you just gotta. Renzetti? Faust? Why were you asleep at the wheel through half that fucking season?

    4. No, you idiots, I was saying how the show portrayed the characters as ones with actual flaws that showed how "love and tolerate" is bullshit, and when the show had a bit of subversive edge to it that got lost as time went on.

    5. I'd remind you that since Faust left, the loss of that "subversive edge" has introduced the concept of reformation for villains as opposed to just punishing them, which is the whole reason that we now have Discord as a recurring character, arguably one of the most complex and interesting personalities on the show.

  5. They must be THAT desperate to get the bronies' attention to their shitty, souless franchise.

    But nobody wants Equestria Girls.

  7. At least the fandom has an accomplice in successfully killing two words now.

  8. It's not Hasbro's fault L&T was abused by autistic fans. I thought the song and its usage were sweet.

  9. The song was pretty good imo. I thought it was going to be cringeworthy before I clicked the link.

  10. On top of that, Hasbro initially released the song with the vocals out of synchronization with the music,

  11. The fact that the saying originated in that context isn't very relevant, because as is widely known, the MLP spirit turns cynicism into positivity. It is very fitting that it is being used in a sincere context now.
Besides, that caption picture very much suggests to be interpreted in a sincere sense, as a non-offensive joke. It is a very good sign that this happened.

  12. Y'all niggas are just mad 'cause you already hated the first Equestria Girls. I know some of you guys make a big deal out of panda rings, but if this song lyric had been in a random season four episode, like that Twilightlicious reference, nobody would be making nearly as big a deal out of it. EG2 WILL do plenty of stupid shit for you to get mad over when it actually comes out. You don't have artificially whip yourselves into a frenzy over tiny things like this. Have some patience.

    1. Are you new to the hiatus? Whipping ourselves into drama frenzies is all we do until it ends.

    2. Nah. I got in just after season one ended. I've been through hiatus and hiatus drama before. I just think this is some stupid shit for us to mine from. I demand a better quality of drama for my hiatus. Overhyped fan projects that turn out to be horrible, fandom celebrities having meltdowns, tumblrinas and Final Drafts getting wiped out in their own intersite drama and rivalries with other faggots... THOSE are what I live for in a hiatus.

We need more stuff like Mando vs. Cats.

  17. Oh, bronies are overreacting because of stupid reasons - again? Big surprise.

I kinda liked the song, actually.
