Another one bites the dust: Silly Filly Studios leaves ride

Following this week's release of "Fall of the Empire", Silly Filly Studios will be the next major fandom entity to jump ship on the community.

According to a series of posts on tumblr from the Studio itself, as well as by lead animator Zedrin, the group is pulling the plug on ponies and moving on to "bigger" and better things.

Fall of the Crystal Empire, which was released to a very divided reception in the community, marks, according to this post from the end of March, the last pony project from the studios, which previously released such widely-viewed animations as Snowdrop.

The animation scored well with many Youtubers, but suffered a deluge of criticism from places like /mlp/, with comments  ranging from "shit/10" to "Fuck you all. I liked it." Nonetheless, the "nays" on the board outnumbered the "yea's", and anons voiced their comments to Zedrin, the head animator, who responded, largely by saying that he doesn't care about ponies any more.
"I’ve already said, I stopped caring a long time ago about the fandom. I just wanted the video done so I can actually work on something that I actually cared about again. If /mlp/ cares that much about my work, that’s their prerogative."
This won't be the last appearance of Silly Filly Studios in the community, at least not yet, they are confirmed to have a panel at Bronycon 2014, though what they will be presenting is yet unknown.

As for what comes next for the studio, they're not saying publicly. All that is for certain, is that they are done with ponies.

The ride claims another one.

  1. If content creators can't take criticism, they really shouldn't be here.

  3. "Your video is kinda...not good."
"I didn't care about it anyway."
"If you say so, I just thought it was pretty bad."
"You don't have experience with nothin! Stop acting like you know what you're talking about!"
    "I just...I didn't enjoy it, man."

    1. I see it more as they just ran a marathon; by the last leg they just want it to be over, they don't care for running anymore and they seriously considered giving up running marathons all together. Now they're following through on that thought.

People can to burn themselves out on things they like, Pony is no exception.

    3. The head animator can't handle criticism? There's a shocker...
Can't wait for the scream fest from him about the SFS fanbase.

    4. I believe this is the Criticism that he was responding to.

In my experience this is the kind of criticism that gets you banned from content-creator-type forums.

How they dare to stop making horse content!

I fucking hate those that jump off the train for whatever reason

  5. This isn't really news, they said they were jumping ship after Fall was completed. The only thing of worth they did was Snowdrop, and the only thing that saved that was the music, which was terrific imo. Having the "best" fan animation isn't saying much. It's still shit, only it smells just a bit better.

Trim the fat. The Hiatus is a good thing. Embrace it.

  6. "I stopped caring a long time ago about the fandom"

This explains why it was so bad. The thing that annoyed me was the voice "acting", seriously. I'm working on a video too, and even thought I'm doing the voice of all characters it is a way better than this crap.

  7. Okay then. I didn't watch it still, but now I never will.

  9. So...what the fuck are they going to be talking about at bronycon?

    1. "How NOT to handle criticism" after the inevitable backlash they'll receive for this, I'd wager.
Or maybe how Zedrin doesn't care about the fandom anymore. Something like that.

  10. is there any bloody brony entertainers who have the nuts to just stick with the fandom? flufflepuff is doing ok and so is dusty katt but all these animators seemed like they jumped on the bandwagon because mlp is easy to draw and animate and the fandom is growing exponentially and used that to progress to get them fame to move onto better work. it's like getting a 99 cooking cape in runescape, it looks cool requires minimum work to get and allows you to get a more cool cape like attack trimmed without needing strength or defence

    1. >99 cooking cape in runescape

...Fuck. My inner anon wants to call you a faggot for this reference, but my inner faggot who played and enjoyed Runescape through my early teens isn't going to let me live with the hypocrisy of it. I'm torn between two worlds here.

You win, anon. I can't compete with this.

    2. Yes, it seems to be a thing in this fandom for animators to gain easy fame because bronies are easily impressed - mostly because it's pony related and either relies on cuteness or flashy effects. Look at Zachary Rich - he made a shitty meme-infested cesspool of bad humor and dry jokes.
Then a few months later he deleted the thing for whatever conspiring reason and went on to do some other shit no one really cares about.

What I'm saying is that if it's no longer pony related, half their fanbase will call it quits.

    3. 'got the nuts to just stick with the fandom'
I just got the stupidest image of a bunch of 90-year-old fucks still animating ponies and bitching over pony waifus.

  11. lol wasn't expecting a runescape analogy on here. True though.

  12. Zedrin outright ADMITS not putting much effort into his work, since he feels less effort will make him more popular.

  13. With all the stupid shit that goes on in this fandom, is it any surprise when someone loses interest in it? Also looks like you grabbed quotes from zedrin's personal tumblr, and not the official sfs tumblr, looking at the differences between the two pictures. Just because one guy hates the fandom, I don't think that means the whole group hates it.

whatever, this fandom has been shit for a long time, doesn't really matter that another group's taking the highway.

  14. I think you missed the part where the lead animator said he lost interest in the fandom.

  15. Well this article was ridiculously hen-pecked.

No offense to the writer of the article but I've been watching the group for a while now and I don't think you have your facts straight on this. I've seen them state several times that they're simply done with pony things "for now". They've even said before that they might be interested in making more pony things in the future, but they're bored with the same old thing and want to try something else. The way I see it from how they've said things, doing something different will make their work actually fun for them. I'd rather see non-pony things that they clearly enjoyed making vs. a luna-sessed half-assed fight sequence it was clear they only made for the sake of the whiny demanding ponyfags.

Plus, most everything this article has is just from one person on that team, and it's taken from his personal account. In fact, the only thing you actually took that was from the group itself was the confirmation of the bronycon stuff and the note that Fall of the Empire was "probably" their last pony video. Aren't there like fifteen people in that group? Has anyone bothered to look at what other team members are saying yet, or, I don't know, actually look at their actual studio website?

No offense, but even I could research an article better than this. It's clear you just wanted to make it look like they were assholes who didn't give a damn.

    1. Very First Post:
"[in the future] they just wont be pony related"
I'm not sure how YOU TWO interpreted that, but I'm pretty sure I read it as "they just wont be pony related"

Also, you're aware this is HORSE NEWS right?
      The INTENTIONALLY Non-credible media site?
The ones who strive to be riding the fence between fact and fiction to keep people guessing at all times?

Read their google description and come back here when you get it.

  16. So they're basically pulling an Alex S. on us.

Makes perfect sense: Screw the people that made us popular. We'll do better without them.

Don't make me laugh, SFS still has active members in the fandom.
