FimFiction is down - 1337 Haxxor claims responsibility

Earlier today, fandom writing site "FimFiction.net" was taken offline. 45 minutes ago, an account attributed to "KekSec International" took responsibility for the takedown.

"We just got rid of degeneracy by taking down #fimfiction http://www.fimfiction.net . Tango down and stuff."

It is unknown how long the outage will last.

Love the smell of Hypocrisy in the morning.

Earlier this week, Horse News received word that some pony websites servers were going to be targeted for takedown by some unknown "hacker" group. It is unsure if that threat is related to this event, however timing suggests it may be.

And yes, it is a script kiddie thing, not actual hacking - that would require skill and talent such folks generally lack.

I'm sure their parents are going to get a knock on their door and they're going to have to go down into their "dungeon" (i.e. basement) to drag the person out.

The most asinine thing about this is how they feel they have acomplished something big, and the irony is that they always achieve the opposite, instead of wiping us, MLP fans, from existence, they only end up uniting and galvanizing the resolve of like-minded people to show how these people are just nobodies whose only sense of achievement comes from being angry at some group of ill-percieved enemies over something they don't like. They are the dying screams of the "old ways" and the strict paradigms of gender exclusivity in media/entertainment, they are the past, they have lost, get over it.

A fandom, from the outside, is a group of nerdy people who all obsess over the same thing. A fandom, from just inside the border (aka, becoming a member), is a club of potential friends who, just maybe, will tolerate your rants for five seconds before kicking you to the curb the second you open your mouth. Like the rest of the world. Including your family, though you know they're trying their absolute hardest every single moment of the day. Am I dramatizing it? NO. WELCOME TO MY LIFE. WELCOME TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE FREAKING PLANET'S LIFE. THIS IS NOT NEW.
A fandom from the inside, though I'm sure I cannot even try to comprehend any of this as I am still a kid (and no, I'm not bullshitting you. Of there's one thing I know, it's that crap like that is obvious and you won't put up with it) is the most beautiful thing - and yet the ugliest sin. Every day, you sit down, grab your laptop, and slay the proverbial beasts of No Internet and My Family Might Notice. Every monster guards a treasure, yours being the hope of finally finding the one who understands.
Every hero has a curse, too, yours being the knowledge that 1. You will never find them, you are kidding yourself by thinking so, 2. Your life awaits just outside, but if you go you will be even more alone because nobody effing cares about what you think, and 3. You are actually happy this way. "Don't you understand?" Sobs the voice of reason, the abusive one chained up in a prison cell in the back of your head. "You're going nowhere! If you don't STOP RIGHT NOW, I can't save you! Please, stop. Before it's too late."
But these people, they are so amazing! You might just find someone that actually cares! And look, they can write too. Well, some of them. Such amazing stories! Hey, maybe you'll be good at it, too! Well, of course not, but it's better than staying quiet forever.
Scroll down for end of rant.

      Delete
    5. Autism isn't something to laugh at. That doesn't excuse what this guy did, but that doesn't mean you can laugh at the entire group diagnosed with this.

      Delete
    6. So you wrote, and you read, and that voice of reason finally tolerates you. Maybe someday, if you're lucky, a real person will too. "Of course not", the voice quips, "but that's okay. It's good for you to dream."
Because truly, there is no hope in life. Not even death itself can stop that. Hell, if I'm too much of a bitching coward to even try, even those dead people, the ones who hung themselves or slit their wrists or drugged themselves or shoved a butcher knife down their throats, are better than me. I have three things that keep me alive. Scroll down, the rant won't fit.
So you wrote, and you read, and that voice of reason finally tolerates you. Maybe someday, if you're lucky, a real person will too. "Of course not", the voice quips, "but that's okay. It's good for you to dream."

I have three things that keep me alive.
One, I am a coward. I couldn't kill myself if I tried. Two, my family loves me, even if I don't fit the human daughter criterion. I don't want them to see my cry, because they deserve so much better from me. Dying is even more pathetic, and more people will get hurt.
Three, writing fan fiction. I will never be smart enough to write a real book, so I'm stuck on this fandom. But I love to do it anyway, and without that surge that comes from just letting people read my thoughts and understand my world, even if just for a moment, those knives in the kitchen would look a lot more helpful right now.
Plus, I actually found something I love to read! Ever heard of "Project Sunflower"? What about "Old Red-Eyes"? I don't care if you read them or not, because just mentioning these stories gives me a little happiness. Just knowing someone else might understand me, and that someone else might read them, makes me love life. And if that's insane, or obsessive, or wrong, haven't you realized I don't care, because I already know and at this point I can take anything you say as a complement? Why? Because someone noticed me, and anything that can be expressed with words is an upgrade to what I truly am. Not in my actions, my brain, my looks, or even my words, but the hate instilled in whatever you want to call me or beat my puny eighth-grade ass with can lay a finger on how I view the parasite that is me.

I have a few stories on fimfiction, and in my opinion the feedback I get helps me retain the will to live and keep writing. Plus, some of the stories on there are incredibly beautiful (such as Project Sunflower, like you said), and are just plain incredible.

  10. DDOS isn't hacking. It's people with dollar store scripts spamming a website. Think of it as a bunch of people hitting F5 repeatedly. The only difference is that instead of having people do it they set up a program to do it for them.

    1. It's an embarrassment for those of us who have been in infosec for over a decade to have some little shit 13-year-olds associating themselves as "hackers" by DDOSing. That's hardly even script-kiddie. A script-kiddie would at least be using a thing like Metasploit and Knoppix STD's (pentesting specific linux distro) tools to do their dirty work.

If you are going to be a punk-bitch script kiddie, at least use tools that aren't the run of the mill. It would be far more effective to do SQL injection of code that messes with the google results (black hat SEO) to say something like "We are massive pony faggots" when Fimfiction was searched. Maybe even sell a little viagra on the side. A true hacker isn't satisfied with a short-term takedown. Sure it makes a statement, but with it being so commonplace, who gives a shit?

It'll be far more disasterous for your target to ruin their reputation instead of making them look like victims. The lack of effort alone signifies that these kids, circle-jerk each other off and hardly know a thing about infosec, networking, IT operations, or computers in general.

  51. This is annoying -_- I hope Fimfiction presses charges since this is a crime and punishable by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (the “CFAA”) prohibits a person from “knowingly caus[ing] the transmission of a program, information code, or command, and as a result of such conduct, intentionally causes damages without authorization to a protected computer” (see 18 U.S.C. § 1030(a)(5)(A)). While broadly worded, DDoS can be classified as transmission of a “program, information code, or command”. Damage is defined as “any impairment to the integrity or availability of data, a program, a system, or information” under 18 U.S.C. § 1030(e)(8).

  53. Just relax, eventually he will get bored, the site will come back up and we can go back to story writing, they cannot keep it up forever, days? weeks? months? Maybe, but hell MLP is signed on for 2 full more seasons, and we bronies number in the millions and growing stronger, he's one little cumshot who missed the sock, he cannot keep this up for as long as we will be around. So lets sit back, wait it out and stop giving him attention.

  54. Ohh nooooo...a DDoS attack...I'm sooooooo scared...

Little bitch actually thinks this is something important? A mild inconvenience at best.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I bet it was a bunch of Anti-Bronies that hacked into the site because they think us bronies are too weird for us to watch a show that was intended for Girls 12 and under. I would not be surpised if it was them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Eh, maybe it's for the better. Fimfiction is a worse time waster than Facebook or reddit for me.

Is it possible the site could be down permanently?

    1. Just a DDoS, so it's unlikely.

  57. Well... This happened. I hope you guys are proud of taking down a fansite for pony porn. I bet your parents would be so proud IRL of this. The fact that you openly bragged about taking this site down shows how stupid you really are.
I find it amusing that you care enough to put effort into taking fansites like this down.
Real life hackers are too busy hacking major corporations while you shit stains are just playing in the kiddypool.

Well done hahahahaha. You guys are being laughed at.

    2. Not that easy, they are hosted on a small server farm, they will just be brought down again till their host can do something about being able to handle the ddos or till the ddos stops.

      Delete
  65. Fimfiction.net is hosted in a podunk server farm, on the cheapest service tier possible and no real ddos protection because it's a relatively small site with a relatively low traffic. Bragging about bringing it down is like being proud about wiping your ass without getting shit on your hands.

  67. Bravo, just bravo. "Gotten rid of degeneracy" they say, wow, all in one day?! Just bravo you guys, I mean you did it, it's not like there are sites out there that are worse than just a fansite. Oh no, it's not like this is worse than a site dedicated to KIDDY PORN or HUMAN TRAFFICKING, or BLACK MARKET crap that you could better spend your resources on.

No, you decide to just use those resources to pretty much p*** off a fandom. I mean, there are sites out there - I'm assuming - that recruit people for terrorist groups and whatnot, that are probably in need of some ddos-ing, and yet you decide to go and attack a website that is basically harming no one and is different from other fandoms. Okay, hope you're proud ourselves, you stood up for justice, truth, and honor! Oh bless you, we shall sing your praises!

Can ya pick up on my sarcasm there? I was laying it on pretty thick. In short, you are nothing, and you peddle your resources on an innocent fansite instead of something that really needs taking down (see above for examples). Why don't you grow a pair and take down sites like that, then you can say you took down degeneracy, until you do, you are nothing but petulant children. Good day, and since I can't create a way to flip you off I'll do it like they do in England: V

  72. As a gamer I firmly believe we should fight back against SJWs together. I mean, they tried to censor Derpy, they attack our pages, they call us degenerates, and it seems the writers don't like SJWs so we don't have to worry that much about what the writers would think.

  77. What's even more unfortunate is that if this remains unresolved, or the resolution does not go public, other '1337 Haxxors' may attempt similar things again. I would hope that once this is fixed the culprit faces some serious consequences that are made known and public. I'm not saying 'to the guillotine!', just, I dunno, a huge fine, or maybe a few months in jail/juvy. (Or perhaps being banned from all forms of web-based activity! Muahahaha!)

  78. *You're doing God's work*?

Seriously? If God had a problem with MLP or bronies, I'm sure there'd be something in the bible along the lines of: 'Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors' mare' or 'I shall give unto him that which is athirst of the waters of the fountain of life freely, except for the fauns'.
