Twitter Explosion: BlackGryphon at DHX, mktoon steps down, EFN dead

So the last 24 hours have been turbulent for the twitterverse. BlackGryphon was spotted at DHX, Mike Vogel stepped down, and something else happened too...
what was it...
hmm...

oh yeah! Everfree Network pulled the plug.
We reported earlier on the rumors of BlackGryphon being in Season 5, based on some comments made on Youtube. Well, fanning those flames is another post from Gryphon, who posted a photo of himself at DHX during the power outage that pushed Season 5 back to a 2016 release date.

Next item was the announcement that Mike Vogel, the Vice President of development for Hasbro Studios, and generally bro guy, stepping down from that position, to become the co-executive producer for the My Little Pony movie.

Generally known for being the go-to guy when fandom/Hasbro relations need smoothing out this is a considerable shift for the show.

Last but not least was the announcement that Everfree Network would be closing up shop for good, come the first of the year.

This caused a plethora of reactions, ranging from the "sad-to-see-you-go's" to the "they were still around"? and everywhere in-between. Equestria Daily was noted as preparing to open a podcast section to their extensive fan-labor coverage, to accommodate the few remaining displaced programs. This announcement was met with resentment from the likes of the ever level-headed Osaka Jack of EFN.

Word is that some EFN folks will continue on with a new station site "Canterlot Hill" and others will join with "Poison Joke Productions". Whatever that is.

Below, HN has gathered many of the heartfelt posts that we were able to see about the closing of one of the larger, older pieces of the fandom, from its operators.

Poetic.

Heartfelt.

Profound.

Well said Draft. Well said.

At the time of posting, the EFN shutdown article on their website had 34 upvotes, which sources say, may be the most positive reaction any article there has ever received.

  1. Dane Vogel stepping down and EFN closing shop? Tis a day of celebration all around. I hereby decree that throughout all time, December 12th shall be known as Arthur Hamilton Day, in honor of myself, Arthur Hamilton of Roperville, Ohio.

    2. At a con this past summer (think it was BABSCon, but please correct me if I'm wrong), EFN people finagled more press badges than they were allowed, then complained when the con denied the extra ones. FinalDraft used his press badge to get into places he wasn't allowed, cornered Ashleigh Ball and forced an interview without any advance notice to her or the con, which was a breach of several contracts. When con staff called him on it, he raised hell, which led to him getting his badge revoked and thrown out of the convention.

I don't really see how HorseNews went too far on this one, since they were the only ones willing to report the insanity (EQD has always been too tight with EFN & FD), and EFN went out of their way to keep HN out of cons completely.

Also I'm glad the "monopolize MLP fandom" cartel is finally dismantled.

  9. Eh, EFN seemed to be going down slowly anyway. I was at their panel at BronyCon last August, and it was at best a quarter full room (which means under 200 people in the room). I only stuck around because I was hoping Horse News would do a "double dressing" by coming back and making a ceasar salad to go with the tater salad. But alas, no mayonnaise was left for such a task.

  10. BlackGryph0n in doing the Christmas Tour with some of the VAs. Vancouver was their Dec. 7th date. Dec 12th was their Michigan date. Wonder when that picture was taken.
