Setting their children up for a life of greed and unreciprocated romantic advances, (or in all-likelihood a long career of stripping) no less than 7 couples named their children (we presume all daughters, but we're also cisgendered scum), after the cartoon horse Rarity.
And it doesn't stop there.
According to this article and this article, not only are there 7 kids named after fashion horse, there are also 20 kids now named "Nyx".
What is "Nyx" you ask?
How new are you?
If you punch "Nyx" into a quick google search, one of the first things that will come up, that are relatively recent developments, is this little bundle of "early-fandom-what-the-fuck".
That, kids, is Nyx. And because we know you are too lazy to click the associated link, what you need to know is that it is a Black Alicorn OC that was created by the resurrection of Nightmare Moon as a child.
Nyx, simply put, is the premier edgy fanfic oc.
This is hardly the first time somebody has gone as far as to name their newborn after a pony. In 2012, a DeviantArt user named "Runa The Seamstress" named her daughter "Pinkamena Zecora Smith".
Pinkamena turned 2 years old this Spring. She will be in elementary school before the show ends.
Is this a wise decision on the parts of parents? How many more pony children will we see before the ride ends? Will we someday be able to purchase REAL sports jerseys with the name "Rainbow Dash" on the back?
Thanks Spazz for showing us these links. We can't wait to see all the boys named "Tirek" and girls named "Maud" when the list comes out for 2014.
Nyx, you can get away with.
ReplyDeleteRainbow dash is abuse
>imblyin
DeleteRather name 'em after worst pony than Edge McEdge
You could probably get away with Rarity too, it's unusual but it's not "Twilight Sparkle".
DeleteMiddle names are fair game: a middle name of Nyx or Twilight won't mean your kid gets beat up more than the other kids (assuming it's a girl), especially seeing as most people don't really give out their middle name much.
DeleteMaud and Luna you could probably get away with, though Maud sounds more like an Amish or grandma's name, but most other pony names just feel awkward when given to a human. Though Rarity doesn't seem quite as out there as Rainbow Dash, Pinkamena, or Fluttershy.
ReplyDeleteYou CAN name them Rarity, but you're almost guaranteeing their permanent career goal to be either a porn star or an erotic dancer.
DeleteOr perhaps a clop artist?
DeleteAre you telling me that if I wait log enough I'll be able to marry my waifu AND she draws clop!?
Delete100% guaranteed.
DeleteWhy wait?

22 people called Mary Sue.
DeleteSeveral thousands of people with the first name Maud. Several hundreds with last name Pie (but not the two at the same time).
4 people called Mitch Larson.
No records for Twilight, Rarity or Pinkamena.
>There are fewer than 1,591 people in the U.S. with the first name Nyx.
DeleteProbably because Nyx is the Greek goddess of the night.
Or an OC, whatever.
If I met a kid named Nyx, I'd befriend them immediately. No one messes with a kid named Nyx.
ReplyDelete> worst pony
ReplyDelete> rarity
check your privilege, hn
>implying there is a worst pony
ReplyDeleteI felt legitimately bad for all the flak that Runa got. All the MLP-hating aspies on the net gave her shit.
ReplyDelete... also isn't that "Rainbow Dash" just a stage name?
Let's reach some middle ground, then. I'll admit that it is indeed autistic as fuck to go out and harass Runa over this, if you admit that naming a human child "Pikamena Zecora Smith" is still fucking dumb.
DeleteOh believe me, I never thought it was a good idea at all.
DeleteSo then yeah, middle ground reached.
I wish more of my online interactions ended like this.
DeleteI really miss the times when children were gettin' names like Chris, Peter or, I don't know, Martha...
ReplyDeleteNow naming became a "Who makes his child's name sound more retarded?" race.
Rainbow Dash, at least, was a nickname the girl chose for herself because she's a genuine fan of the show. Like most little girls are.
ReplyDeleteWait, there are little girls that like 20-year old men's show like mlp? EWW EWW EWW EWW that's just wrong, they're probably going to grow up to be neckbeard pedos
DeleteThose names in the articles are all atrocious. It's like nobody gives a fuck what's in a name. Charlemagne means "great man" and he was a rapacious, mass-murdering, religious tyrant. Now it's a girl's name!
ReplyDeleteCall your kid after Adolf Hitler or any other Nazi figure and you'll have Child Protection on your ass and steal your kids away because you're an unfit parent for naming your children after great people. Fuck the jewmedia.
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't name their child Tirek the Terrible?
ReplyDeleteHe'd have a fucking great school life. Maybe not a great adult life, trying to find work and whatnot, but hey.
There are worse names out there. There was a story on NPR about guy whose name was "God". There are also some black kids names I've heard such as "D'One" and "Master". Yeah, Nyx and Rarity are far from being in the shit leagues of naming sense.
Nyx is the greek primordial goddess of night, just putting that out there,
ReplyDeleteThe parents could also be Persona 3 weeaboos.
I recall one time, Acclaim Entertainment tried to get someone to name their child "Turok" to promote Turok 3.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if anyone went through with it.
I would totally name my daughter Rarity.
ReplyDeleteThen I'd sell her to the Australians. They're a dirty people.
It's better than growing up to look like Bulk from Power Rangers. Let's be honest
ReplyDeleteI'm confused, the title says dozens but less than ten name their kid Rarity, who is presented as worst pony based on the image.
ReplyDeleteSorry, less than ten are named Rarity.*
DeleteMeaning too few parents for dozens, but Nyx would be 40 which is dozends
When did Capper have such horrible taste?
ReplyDeleteWell Rarity is worst pony so of course that's what the casuals would go for.
ReplyDeleteBulk Biceps.
ReplyDeleteOp is an idiot. Who says the children were named after the oc? "Nyx is the Greek goddess (or personification) of the night" straight from wikipedia. People name theer children after Greek godesses all the time. How common are Carman or Grace, I've seen an Isis (no not the militant group you idiots), Lilith, Penelope, Morgan... the list goes on.
