Remnants of Las Pegasus Unicon Imploded.

It's official. Any remaining remnants of the nightmare that was Las Pegasus Unicon were officially demolished last night.

Last night, 14.06.2016 in the wee hours of dawn, the city of Las Vegas imploded the Monaco Tower part of the Riviera Hotel, which closed its doors last year due to an ever growing number of financial problems. With the building's collapse, suppressed painful memories of the only MLP convention to ever fail spectacularly back in February 2013 went down with the ship.
Full video of the implosion is here, with the actual demolishing starting around 4:55 in the video.

For those new to the ride, Las Pegasus Unicon was a MLP convention ran back in February 2013 in Las Vegas, NV that failed spectacularly. Buried in a myriad of poor choices, such as having the convention hosted at The Riviera Hotel & Casino - a hotel that had filed for bankruptcy in 2010 - and overextending themselves on their budget, it's no wonder the whole thing failed.

Their goal at the time was to create a convention that, in its first year, would topple the MLP Convention Behemoth known as Bronycon. To do this, they had, in the leading months up to Unicon, invited every show guest they could get their hands on in order to attract a high amount of people to the convention. Essentially they had gambled their budget on at-the-door sales, as their website for pre-selling tickets was a piece of shit, to say the least. They only managed to attract about 1,300 people to the convention, but in order to pay off all the show staff they invited, would have had to bring in over 2,000 people.

In short: the convention was unable to pay back both the show staff and the venue itself, which in turn caused the venue to screw people over by double charging their credit cards for rooms, causing a huge cascade of small problems to stack upon each other until by Sunday morning, everything was in ruins. Panic ensued, and the convention organizers were accused of fleeing the scene as it all came tumbling down.

  8. I am an event photographer, I love this venue, and I will revisit the San Francisco event venues in a heartbeat. They have really great staff and pretty decent drinks. Their halls and rooms are absolutely gorgeous.
