The Daily Oat says goodbye

Another piece of the old fandom is ending, as the folks over at "The Daily Oat" call it quits. A message from writer Yup indicates that the site has no intention to proceed into the next chapter of the show, and will be closing up shop. We've copy-pasta'd the notice below, for when the site does disappear for people to find it.

Over the past few years, I have been the main editor of The Daily Oat, bringing in stories from across the community as well as building and maintaining the website. Unfortunately this has become more and more difficult to do this on my own, with added work commitments and such. It’s come to the point that, without help, the quality of the website has dropped and I don’t feel that I can continue to try and reverse this. With this in mind, it’s with a heavy heart that I am announcing a shut down of operations at The Daily Oat.
The website will still be available to visit, but there will be no further news updates following this announcement. I’ll be keeping an eye still on the Twitter and Facebook channels, but eventually these will be shut down as will the website. I have been thinking about this for a while and I think now (as the Season 5 hype train steams off from the station) is probably a better time than any to hang up my pencil…or keyboard.
I want to thank everyone who helped keep The Daily Oat going since its origins on Ponychan, and I also want to thank all of you who have visited the website and justify what we do. Also, thank you to anyone who I was able to meet at Ponycon and BUCK over the years as a press guest; and, of course, thanks to the show and community guests who have been kind enough to deal with me pretending we were a big deal! I’ll still be hanging around the Brony community, helping with other projects and just enjoying the show and whatever we have in store over the next few years.
Once again, thank you. Brony on, people.

    1. Y'know I can sorta understand the appeal in shitposting. It's fun to see people get all worked up over stuff you type just to get a reaction and in the end you just remain neutral in it all. No sides just getting a reaction. It's fleeting yeah but fun. It's great when famous and infamous tumblr users have anon on.

But this sorta stuff you do when you're really bored with nothing to do to pass the time.

  4. I've been following the fandom since January 2011, and I've never heard of this site.

  5. You will be missed, Daily Oat

At least you weren't Everfree Network. That's something to take pride in.

  6. At this rate, I hope all the godforsaken MLP websites die out. Including EQD. I despise all the fucking famous bronies that ruined the entire fandom for me. All the fucking so-called content creators, the voice actors, everyone. OsamaJackoff, Final Draft, Ellie Monty, Nowacking, MemJ123, Rina-chan, AnimatedJames, Fluffymixer; I HATE them all. And I want, more than anything, to see them destroyed.

    2. This isn't about butthurt, anons. This is about fandoms turning into shit because of paradigm shifts. I'll extrapolate.

It is conclusive that all the cons have gone to shit. I think it is due to a paradigm shift in the fandom- it's not about being friendly, inclusive, silly, or entertaining. It's not even really about the fandom anymore. Be it anime, video games, furries, or even My Little Pony, It has become a profit venture, an exclusivity club, and a power trip. Those who attend have likened themselves to social climbers attending grand galas and formal luncheons while the staff see themselves as exclusive rulers that have chosen to, in their great kindness, allow the rabble to mingle in their presence.

That, along with the more subtle, slower degredation of the fandoms as a whole, has made me very sad. They used to be friendly, creative, unique communities, even as far back as the 90's, with some fandoms. Now it's just a collection of unrelated people who can't agree on a single commonality.

    3. TL;DR your faggot whining

You're such a queer of the highest order. The fact you went and explained yourself over small time shit shows how petty and insecure you are. Please, just... take a break from the fandom and the internet too. Idk go outside, play games, masturbate, whatever just take some time away from the fandom. Yeesh...

    4. Calm down faggot. Hug it out, hug it out. Like I said: go outside, play games, masturbate, etc just spend time away from the fandom and the internet. Take a long vacation. Chill, you're letting your petty insecurities get the best of you.

    5. I used to kind of think like you. But then I started seeking out the people who don't care about money/internet fame/etc, and the fandom became much more enjoyable. There are plenty of people who still want to express creativity through art or music or whatever, but who *aren't* moneygrubbing attention whores. They're a lot harder to find (because they have way fewer watchers/followers/subscribers) but I find that they are a lot more fun to interact with, because they're just normal people trying to have a good time.

    6. I attend cons because they;re fun. You're thinking way too much about the fandom of silly pastel horses.
