Or natural evolution?"

Any of those would literally have been much better. I just hated how, once again, it was related to Starswirl and him fucking up. It's becoming an incredibly lazy trope in both the comics and fanfics since Magical Mystery Cure, or hell, since he was first mentioned in Luna Eclipsed(?).

But beyond that, the comic had to overexplain everything about the changelings. Where did they come from? Starswirl pouring potions in a magical swamp. Where did Chrysalis get her crown and tattered wings & cheese legs? Previous excursions in conquering shit, the latter of which was apparently adopted by all the regular Changelings apparently since I don't think they were created with them.

Hell, the idea that Chrysalis was either the Alicorn Princess who was love poisoned long ago, or is Prisma from that Cadance book might not be original, but they're still more satisfactory than Cook's origins. And pre-emptive "I know the comics aren't canon to the show", it was still a dumb origin. It makes about as much sense as any other backstory they could've gotten. It's not like there's any canon precedent being contradicted. There's no Equestrian creation myth or anything. If you just don't like it for personal reasons, that's fine, and I don't blame you, but is it fair to hold it against Cook for choosing a backstory that you didn't like? What if she'd gone with corrupted flutterponies? Or love-poisoned alicorn? Or created by an evil god? Or natural evolution? Like, honestly, tell me, anon 3. What did you think the changelings backstory was before? Serious question. End result of Starswirl dumping his old potions in an enchanted swamp? Chrysalis has cheese legs because of a misadventure (never mind that all changelings have those IIRC). Ugh.

Hate to say it, but Cook was a big reason I eventually stopped buying the comics. I could forgive Reflections, even if I hated the way they screwed up the "Mirror-Verse" by turning Alt-Celestia & Alt-Luna unequivicably good at the end and the fact she seemed smug in rubbing readers' noses in the fact that an Alt-Mane Six weren't in at all despite being on the fucking cover. But those Bull & Elf Deer stories were particularly bad. At least the show excused Celestia being nerfed by the Smooze being evil and her hoping Discord would take things to "Interesting" and not "Sending someone to a Sock Puppet Dimension".

But yeah, fuck that Sirens comic. Anderson hasn't ever centered an issue around his stupid diatribes on racism like Whitley did. Anderson is perfectly content to actually write stories rather than soapbox rants. On the other hand, Whitley only ever did that once, and every other time he's written, he's been pretty decent, with his Discord issues being amongst my personal favourites in the IDW series, whereas everything Anderson produces is garbage regardless of its content.

So yeah, I kind of agree with your sentiments.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-972990476219054386.post-42047895833919693442015-07-25T19:38:45.975-05:002015-07-25T19:38:45.975-05:00I second this. And it's precisely BECAUSE comics are a visual medium first that I can't stand any of Fosgitt's issues. His style is just not suited for pony at all, and I have no idea why they keep using him.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-972990476219054386.post-92206751937674901862015-07-25T02:22:49.316-05:002015-07-25T02:22:49.316-05:00If you're going to put art before PLOT AND DIA...If you're going to put art before PLOT AND DIALOGUE, maybe you should be able to draw characters that look right and not like weird boneless Tweetie Bird children.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-972990476219054386.post-79148514731433304682015-07-25T00:02:16.380-05:002015-07-25T00:02:16.380-05:00Wow. Was Bobby around in the industry during the 90's?

Was he aware that shit like that led Image to form with it's many delayed books and shitty-yet-somehow-inexplicably-popular art and books such as Liefeld's Youngblood, where Perelman's Marvel nearly led to the death of the whole industry because importance was laid less on the story but with "cutting edge" art for meandering plots?

Wouldn't be surprised if he pissed of what talent he barely has on the book off with this.

*Sigh* You know, I pretty much stopped buying the main book on that Everfree Deer-Elves story, and Friends Forever shortly after. Fosgitt I feel sorry for, for even if you can over look his art (with the odd hatred of his tendency for bipedal ponies), he's ususally paired with Tedly.

Honestly, the last MLP books I bought were those Fiendship Forever oneshots. Tirek's was nice, Sombra's was cliche yet overall okay I suppose. I absolutely hated the Sirens, Nightmare Moon & Chrysalis stories. The former was especially bad, so much so that I think Tedly was trying his hardest to troll anyone who liked Rainbow Rocks or EqG in general. Hell, MLP in general for sure.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-972990476219054386.post-75781588907290955432015-07-24T22:47:09.382-05:002015-07-24T22:47:09.382-05:00UUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
